In northern Cameroon, the so-called Sudan-Sahelian climate dominates up to the limit oft the Mandara Mountains. North of the Mandara Mountains in the Chad-level dominates the hot and dry Sahel climate. Temperatures vary between 25 and 45 ° C.

The rhythm of the seasons is determined by rainy seasons and dry seasons. The rainy season lasts from July to October, the dry season from November to June. The highest temperatures are reached in the period March-May. During this time, the thermometer can rise to 48°C. The dry heat, however, is usually more pleasant than the humidity in southern Cameroon. Due to the altitude, temperatures in the Mandara Mountains are milder.

The Far North - worth a visit all year round

In the Far North every season has its special charm.

The "hot period" from March to May is ideal for safaris: Due to the shortage of water, the animals will gather at water holes. The vegetation is mostly dried up, so you can better observe the animals.

During the rainy season the vegetation sprouts of in a fresh green and the Mayos (river beds) are filled with water. The access to some destinations may be difficult during this time due to road conditions.

During the dry season, the North appears brown and dry. During some days, the Harmattan (north-east trade wind) is sweeping over the wide open spaces. Sometimes no ray of sunshine will reach through the dust masses.
