Handicraft in the Far North

The Extreme North is especially known for its handicraft products. High quality souvenirs are made of leather, wood and cattle horns. The most important rule: If it's possible haggle the prices!

COOPAPEN COOPAPEN stands for Coopérative des Artisans Producteurs de l'Extrême Nord and was founded in 2005. The center is located in the district Maroua Pitoaré, next to the Communauté Urbaine de Maroua (city council of Maroua). The cooperative supports the artisans to produce and sell their products. In the shop which is located in a building in the form of a Case Obus wyou will find beautiful and high quality craft products. The prices are fixed and a little higher than in the Centre Artisanal at the Central Market but can take a look around without any stress. In addition, you will support cooperative!

Exhibition on the terrace of the Hotel Porte Mayo On the terrace of the popular hotel in Maroua beautiful, high-quality handicraft products are offered. You will find for example hand-painted calebasses, embroidered blankets, jewelry, leather bags, etc.

Centre Artisanal de Maroua Right next to the main entrance of the Marché Central in Maroua you will find the Centre Artisanal with a a huge variety of souvenirs.

Centre Artisanal of the crafts cooperative in Djingliya In the showroom of the craft cooperative of Djingliya which was founded in the 1960s, many beautiful arts and crafts products are offered.

Rhumsiki During a walk through the village Rhumsiki in the Mandara Mountains you can be sure to find lot of souvenirs. Typical are pottery products.
