Health in the Far North - Important Tips!
Before a trip to Cameroon you should visit a centre for tropical medicine or a doctor specialised on tropical medicine. We give you some important tips, but would like to point out that only the advice of a doctor is sufficient and indivual. Vaccinations:
Food Hygiene: Through food and water borne diseases (such as diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, dysentery, worm infections, hepatitis A) can be avoided by considering certain rules: Drink only disinfected, boiled or filtered water. Avoid ice cubes. Food should be: cooked, peeled, or even disinfected. Malaria Prophylaxis: There is a high risk of malaria all year round that's why a malaria prophylaxis is essential! Ask your tropical medicine for the appropriate prophylaxis for you. The most important prevention is a protection against insect bites. Not only malaria is transmitted by mosquitoes, but also other diseases (eg dengue fever, sleeping sickness). Sleep under a treated mosquitoe net, wear long, light, loose clothing in the evenings, use anti-mosquito spray for uncovered parts of the body. In Cameroon:
Generally, you should consult a physician if you feel do not feel well (especially fever, prolonged diarrhea, nausea, or flu symptoms). Private clinics and public hospitals with an adequate standard can be found in Maroua. Drugs are available in many pharmacies.
Travel insurance:
Before starting your journey to Cameroon, you should choose a travel insurance.
