Money in Cameroon
Since Cameroon is a member of the Central African Financial Community the CFA franc is the official currency of the country.
1 Euro = 655 FCFA, 1 USD = 485 FCFA, 1 GBP = 756 FCFA (stable exchange rate). You can take cash money or travelers checks with you and change in Cameroon into FCFA. More practical is owning a credit card with which you can withdraw money. Recommended is owning a credit card. Some banks offer credit cards which allow to withdraw money without additional fees. Check the different offers. You will find many ATMs in Maroua. But even in smaller towns you will find banks. Banks are open between 7 and 15 hours. For direct payment credit cards are accepted only very rarely (mostly in larger hotels).
